Vision: every dog in a happy home
The center of our practices is to go back to basics and create a solid foundation for whatever you desire to create with your dog as part of the family. By creating a solid and clear foundation, this will allow your dog to adapt easily to whatever changes that may happen further in life. It is easier and more efficient to prevent problems than having to solve them later on. This guide starts by covering the dogs' basic needs, which are the things they value more to feel secure and relaxed. It gives you guidance on how to provide those needs in order to create a greater connection and sense of trust with your dog, which will allow you to have better results in any additional training you choose to practice together. These main practices allow you to prevent the main behaviour issues many families have with their dogs. "It’s not about perfection, it’s about taking care of each other, having healthier and happier relationships with our dogs, coming from a place where we understand who they are and what they need." - Marta Gomes, founder of WOW Puppies®
Marta Gomes
Hi everyone, I am Marta, and the origin of WOW Puppies comes far back to my childhood, when I had a beautiful dog (Lassie) as part of my life. We had an amazing and very close connection. I was already working when Puppy entered my life (4 years after Lassie became a star). He was looking for a home and I decided to stay with him (he was 2 and a half years old approximatelly). I've always wanted a dog since Lassie left her beautiful body, and at that time I had just moved to a new house and to a new job, which allowed me to do it. Puppy is a beautiful, loving dog, which was looking for a safe home and affection. And at the same time he transformed my life! I've always been passionate about dogs, animals, nature, and with his entrance in my life I started studying and getting deeper into dog behaviour and training (Puppy was coming from an environment where he was mistreated, and presented some behaviours - especially around food - that I was commited to understand and improve). Started by reading books, watching TV shows about it, and less than 3 years later decided to take an almost 1-year long Scientific Canine Training Course. With that I ended up leaving my job, travelling to Australia for 1 year and a half, where I worked with dogs in various ways and did a 6 months course in Captive Animals while working at Sydney Zoo as a volunteer zoo-keeper. The course was focused on the animals' needs in the wild, and how to fulfill those needs in captivity in the best way possible (which works for any animal, including us!). 6 months later I went to New Zealand to meet Mark Vette, one of the most renowned Dog Behaviourists, and it was another amazing experience! Once I arrived home Sammy showed up in our lives, a 5 and a half months puppy, looking for a home. Every one of these stories have so much to them, and this is just a brief summary of my journey and experience for you to get to know me better. Since then I did some more studying, and kept working with dogs in many ways (Dog Behaviour & Training, Well-being, Dog Sitting), and that also took me to exploring more into personal growth and how our well-being, emotions and happiness levels impact our dogs too. Over time, after gathering all that knowledge and experience, and seeing what works best with families and their dogs, it became really clear how to work with my clients, in a way that creates a solid and clear foundation, to improve both their lives. And these practices became a foundation of my work and daily life with both my dogs and my clients' dogs. This is what I want to share with you here, in this practical and short guide, so you can start improving yours and your dogs' lives today, in such a way that everyone feels secure and relaxed! The results I have seen over and over with my clients, in just one day, are incredible! And once you keep on practicing them you will see even more. For every dog in a happy home! Wish you a lot of joy, fun and a great connection, Marta, WOW Puppies®
